Quiet day

I predict a very quiet day. The Master has a big case on tomorrow for which we've been doing preparation for a couple of weeks now. He was in chambers on Friday, but was so absorbed with his own preparation that I was just getting in the way. He said he'd be in today as well, although there's no sign of him yet. It is a tad early for barristers, mind.

In many ways, this hardly deserves a post. I usually wait until something vaguely interesting has happened or occurs to me, or at least something out of which I can spin an anecdote. However, I've spent quite a few days just hanging around doing not much, so it is important to record this 'activity' on the blog. In percentage terms, it's probably the main activity in which I've been engaged, in fact: nothing.

The fact is that pupils do rather get in the way, and allocating us work is a bit of a chore. Allocating meaningful work requires a bit of imagination and also more time further down the line in going over the work with the pupil concerned. Friday's task of 'just read the papers' was the first time The Master has resorted to this particular fall-back, which I think reflects quite well on his tutillage hitherto. I'm expecting more of the same today should he put in an appearance.

You could always use the time to publish a casenote in a law review - something that may help when looking for a tenancy.

Oh, and I'm terribly upset that your RSS feed is now only in snippets, rather than full posts. This means I have to click another button to read your content...

So, bearing in mind you've spent about 5 months in chambers, have you found pupillage a useful experience so far?

Have read your blog and am now seriously reconsidering my career plans.
Great stuff.

Martin: sorry, in the absence of much else I'm getting a bit obsessed with website stats and want to try and work out how many people are reading this. If I can work out how to keep track of who is receiving feeds (suggestions, anyone?) then full feed service will resume.

JB: not really. I've learned quite a lot about Bar etiquette from The Master and have done a couple of useful exercises on general civil law stuff, about which I'm pretty ignorant. But it ain't over yet.

Lawdent: reconsidering which way?!

Can't think of a good suggestion for feed stats offhand, except that you could (and should) switch from the rubbish that is Blogger and go to Wordpress. This has a full stat engine inbuilt, as well as lots of other goodies that Blogger does not have.

It also has a Blogger post importer, so you can move all your posts across, and you can do a URL redirect to the new address (pupilblog.wordpress.com).

All the cool blawgers are on Wordpress...

Cool blawggers indeed use wordpress.

Feed stats and a properly controllable feed can be had via www.feedburner.com

You will make Martin and others much happier.

Yes, I do need to look into this. My technical knowledge is a bit limited, unfortunately. I certainly don't want to move my whole blog, though, especially as it is time limited and will be over after twelve months anyway.

I did a family pupillage with a top London set three years ago. Don't ask what I am doing now. I had a pupilmaster who also did those endless care cases and would get me to do pointless things "just in case". I tell you I would put (some) money on us having been at the same set. I got out of family work after pupillage Anyway, keep up the great work.

Anonymous, I'd really like to hear what you are doing now!
